How to Tell if Your Mini-Split Was Installed Correctly

An incorrectly positioned outdoor unit may struggle during extreme weather.

Here are the things homeowners can inspect without opening the equipment.

1. The Indoor Unit Is Level and Secure

The indoor head should:

  • Sit securely against the mounting plate
  • Not visibly sag
  • Not wobble
  • Have appropriate manufacturer clearances

A poorly mounted unit can create vibration, drainage problems and noise.

2. The Condensate Drain Actually Drains

During cooling, the indoor unit removes moisture from the air.

That water must leave the building.

  • Proper downward drainage

  • No sagging drain hose
  • No water staining

  • Dedicated circuit
